Azure Repos provides cloud-hosted private Git repositories for teams of any size. It replaces the version control capabilities formerly available in Visual Studio Team Services and integrates directly with the broader Azure DevOps ecosystem.
Developers and organizations use Azure Repos to store code, manage branching, and collaborate through pull requests. It supports both Git and Team Foundation Version Control, giving teams flexibility in their version control workflows.
You create or import a Git repository into Azure Repos, configure branch policies, and invite your team. When a developer pushes a feature branch, they open a pull request, team members review the code with inline comments and threaded discussions, and the CI pipeline automatically validates the change before merge.
Azure Repos is best suited for teams already invested in the Microsoft ecosystem who want tight integration with Azure Pipelines, Boards, and Test Plans. It is free for an unlimited number of users on public projects and for up to five users on private projects, with paid tiers for larger private teams.
