Yes. The Personal plan is free forever and includes 2,000 accepted edit predictions, with unlimited use through your own API keys or external agents like Claude Agent and Codex CLI. The editor itself is free for all to use, with binaries for macOS and popular Linux distributions.
How does the free trial work?
Zed offers a 14-day free trial of Pro with $5 of GPT-5.6 Luna usage and unlimited accepted edit predictions. No credit card is required. The trial ends when you use the $5 balance or 14 days pass, whichever comes first. GPT-5.6 Luna is the only hosted model available during the trial.
What is the difference between Pro and Business?
Pro is for individual developers and comes with Zed-hosted AI models and unlimited edit predictions. Business is an org-level layer on top of Pro, not a replacement. Business adds the admin layer: org-wide controls over AI features, data sharing policies, and unified billing across every seat.
Can I use my own API keys instead of paying?
Yes. Zed supports Amazon Bedrock, Anthropic, GitHub Copilot, Deepseek, Google AI, LM Studio, Mistral, Ollama, OpenAI, OpenRouter, Vercel, and more. When you bring your own keys, spend goes directly to your provider.
What is a token?
A token is a unit of text processed by an LLM, roughly 3–4 characters of English text. With token-based billing, you are only charged for the text your prompts and responses actually consume. Zed Pro bills hosted usage at API list price +10%.
Do Business seats include AI credits?
No. Business seats do not bundle a fixed LLM credit allotment. You can use Zed-hosted AI at standard usage rates, or bring your own API keys from providers such as Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google, in which case spend goes directly to your provider.
