About Shotcut
Overview
Shotcut is a free, open-source, cross-platform video editor for Windows, Mac, and Linux. It edits projects natively without requiring an import step, supports hundreds of audio and video formats through FFmpeg, and handles resolutions up to 8K. It also offers Blackmagic Design SDI and HDMI support for input and preview monitoring, plus screen, webcam, and audio capture.
The project was originally conceived in November 2004 by Charlie Yates, an MLT co-founder, and the current version is a complete rewrite by Dan Dennedy, another MLT co-founder and its current lead developer. Meltytech, LLC owns the Shotcut trademark and copyright.
